Worthing is situated in West Sussex and is primarily a seaside town. From the 1970's the town was recognised for its trade in the motor industry as vehicle models such as Datsun and Nissan were founded here. Worthing was the global headquarters for the largest kit car manufacturers known as Dutton cars. In addition to this, Worthing was home to Britain's most significant design houses, International Automotive Design which made prototypes for companies such as Mazda.
As Worthing is predominantly a seaside town, Worthing Beech is the best place for a family day out. Families together can build sandcastles and enjoy a walk through the sand or do their own crab spotting. Adults can take some time out and have a coffee or ice cream at the seating area constructed around the attractions area known as Worthing Lido. Most of the attractions are targeted at children in order for them to have a variety of activities to engage is including the use of bouncy slides and roundabouts.
Worthing Lido also offers a fantastic choice of rides usually found in fun fairs which creates a vibrant and lively atmosphere for visitors. There are a few cafes and small shops and to accompany all of this is an ice cream and desserts kiosk. A magnificent view of the seafront can be witnessed from Worthing Pier which is known for its incredible height from the water. Visitors can take a seat and enjoy the picturesque landscape, whilst older children can divert to the Amusement Room where they can play arcade games. Also found at the Pier is The Pavilion, a brilliant venue for theatre and music performances geared towards children. Food and drink is accessible at any point.
For a historical view of Worthing visitors can go to Worthing Museum & Art Gallery. Here you will find the largest range of toy and costume collections in England. There are archaeology galleries accompanied by galleries of fine art and the museum also showcases Roman hoards, uncovered not so long ago. Other features include a beautiful sculpture garden, a studio and there are facilities available for children.
Sporting Amenities can be found at Field Place, a manor house dating back from the eighteenth century that covers eight acres of land. Field Place can be used for many purposes from holding conferences to theatre productions but visitors can come here to enjoy a day in the outdoors. Here you can play tennis in any of the six all weather tennis courts on offer, or even try your hand at table tennis. You can also have a few rounds of golf in the 18 holed golf courses that are open in the summer period only.
For a more cultured experience of the town, you can visit The Pavilion Theatre & Picturehouse, Assembly Hall Complex, The Connaught Theatre and Screen 2 Cinema which are all of Worthing's most prestigious theatres. From these theatres you can choose from an array of events which are held regularly throughout the year. Visitors have a great selection of plays, dances and concerts available to them which are equally entertaining for the local community as well as tourists in the area.
